Iona Elifritz, 98 of Edgar, Nebraska passed away on Sunday, September 3, 2017 at Columbus Care and Rehabilitation Center in Columbus, Nebraska.  

Iona was born August 4, 1919 to Charley and Jessie (Bowman) Skinner at Oak, Nebraska. She attended the Marshall country school from first grade to the eighth grade.  Then graduated from Edgar High School with the class of 1938.  She had her 79th year class reunion in 2017.

Iona was united in marriage to Marvin Elifritz on November 19, 1938.  To this union were born two daughters: Virginia Kay and Doris Renea.  She was lifelong area resident and helped her husband with the family farm.

Iona was a member of the Church of the Plains, she had helped with Sunday School for several years and served as a Deacon.  She belonged to the quilters group and helped quilt many quilts.  Iona was a member of the Friendship Club for 30 years, a 4-H leader for 25 years, and a member of the Ladies Aid.  She owned Mom’s Ceramics and taught ceramic classes for 20 years.   Iona did a lot of quilting, crocheting and knitting.

Iona is survived by her two daughters: Virginia Johnson and husband Stanley of Buffalo, MN and Doris Lux and husband Norman of Columbus, Nebraska; four grandchildren: Wendy Fie and husband AJ of Howard Lake, MN; Bill Johnson of Howard Lake, MN, Crystal McGinnis and husband Ryan of Denham Springs, LA; and Gary Lux of Bellwood, NE; seven great grandchildren: Kylee Fie, Michaela Fie, Adam Fie Jr; Jacob Johnson; Parker Johnson all of Minnesota; Cora McGinnis and Trinity McGinnis both of Louisiana and many nieces, nephews other relatives and her many friends.

Iona is preceded in death by her parents, husband Marvin; sisters Audrey Fitzke, Vivian Jones; twin Iola Fitzke; two brothers Chester and Guy Skinner and sisters-in-laws and brothers-in-laws.
