Ina Jerrien (Jerri) Braun, the daughter of Hubert C. and Ina M. (Smith) Larsen, was born October 7, 1924 in Alta, Iowa. The family moved to Maxwell, Iowa in 1934 where she graduated from High School with the class of 1942. Her high school years were highlighted by activities that included playing saxophone in the band and playing basketball. Jerri was on the first and only Maxwell High School girls’ basketball team to go to the State tournament.

Jerri was initiated into the Pi Chapter of Alpha Delta Pi Sorority at Iowa State University in 1944 and was elected Director of her pledge class. She graduated from Iowa State University with a Bachelor’s degree in Textiles and Clothing in 1946. She met her future Husband, Richard (Dick) Roy Braun, during homecoming weekend at Iowa State.

Jerri was the past president of the Newcomers’ Club, the Junior Women’s Club and the Theta Chi. She was the charter president of Jaycee Jills, the Jaycee Auxiliary, and also served as Jasper County chairman of Easter Seals and as a Junior Achievement Advisor. Her Alpha Delta Pi Sorority activities included the presidency of the local alumnae organization, treasurer of the state association from 1964 to 1966 and Province President of the association from 1969 to 1979. An avid golfer, Jerri won Newton County Club Women’s Golf Championships in 1965, 1971, and 1974.

Jerri died on November 2, 2006 in Tempe, Arizona. She was 82. Jerri was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and sister, Yvonne Perry of Harlan, Iowa. Those left to honor her memory are her son, Rick Braun of Newton; her daughter and son-in-law, Lynn and Bruce Atwood of Tempe, Arizona; her sister and brother-in-law, Yvette and Harold Vande Berg of LaVista, Nebraska; five grandchildren, Kevin Atwood of Mesa, Arizona; Stefanie Atwood of Chandler, Arizona; Crystal Easley, Amber Easley, and Twyla Easley, all of Des Moines, Iowa; one great-grandson, Christian of Des Moines; nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Jerri was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandma, sister and friend.
