Ilene E. (Riggie) Starks, age 93 of Midland, passed away Wednesday November 17, 2021 at her residence.
The daughter of the late George W. and Hazel R. (Bechtel) Riggie was born in Homer Township on May 26, 1928. She graduated from Midland High School in 1945. Ilene worked for The Dow Chemical Company in various positions for 20 years retiring in 1982. She was active in the Cub Scouts, Brownies and Girl Scouts. Ilene enjoyed spending time at her home in Bradenton, Florida.
She spent many hours making quilts for her family. Ilene was very proud of making the Cathedral Windows quilt which she said it took her 3 years to make. She also made lap robes and distributed them to the nursing homes in Florida. Ilene liked playing bingo with her sisters at the local establishments. She was a member of Christ United Methodist Church in Bradenton, Florida.
Ilene enjoyed spending time with her family especially the grandchildren. She also enjoyed going to the antique show in Midland and many different flea markets. On November 8, 1946 in Midland, Ilene married Richard Starks and after 69 years of marriage, he passed away on May 30, 2016.
Surviving is her son, Steven (Sharon) Starks of Shepherd; daughter, Debbie (Rick) Finney of Midland; granddaughter, Vicki (Dave) Warner; great grandchildren, Autum (Brad) Branda, Collin and Jordan; great-great grandchildren, Hunter and Josephina; sister, Connie Glynn. In addition to her parents and husband, Ilene was preceded in death by granddaughter, Tina Starks; brothers, Algin and Ivan Riggie; sisters, Beatrice Mapes, Alma Riggie.
