Iddo Charles Heinicke was born June 25, 1923, in Hoxie, Kansas, to Rev. Iddo C., Sr. and Elizabeth (Boehne) Heinicke. He graduated from Concordia High School, Seward, NE in 1941, and attended Concordia Teachers’ College for two years before entering the military, where he studied engineering at the Colorado School of Mines. Iddo served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He fought as an infantryman in the European Theater and was awarded the Combat Infantry Badge and the Bronze Star. Upon returning to the States, he attended the University of Nebraska, Lincoln, where he received a degree in geology. Iddo also served on the Seward City Council for ten and a half years. On June 9, 1952, Iddo was united in marriage to Joyce Muhl at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Williamsburg, IA. Their marriage was blessed with three children: Stephanie Lee, Kathie Lynn (Koe), and David William.
