Ida Dennis 77 passed away on Tuesday, August 09, 2022 at Autumn Hospice & Palliative Care in Kannapolis, NC.

On August 9, 2022, after a long battle with cancer, surrounded by family, Mrs. Ida Dennis passed peacefully in hospice care. She was born April 1, 1945, to the late Frank Nelson Sr. and Jessie Nelson (Moore) in Clinton (Sampson County), North Carolina.

“Toothpick” as she was affectionately called, was educated in the Sampson County School System. At the young age of 16, Ida moved to Brooklyn, New York where she worked as a Health Aide in the Homecare Industry.  In 2006, she retired from her long career with the City of New York, as a Homecare Case Worker.

In 1961, a chance encounter brought her face to face with Adye Dennis, who became the love of her life. They were happily married for 23 years but together for 43 years.

Ida accepted Christ at an early age, she became an active member and missionary of Washington Temple Church.  Over the years, she continued her journey in Christ by becoming a member of New Frontier Baptist Church, and King Emmanuel Missionary Baptist Church. In 2021, she became a faithful member of Mount Tabor Missionary Baptist Church.

She was an avid lover of her Soaps, HGTV, the Price is Right, Jeopardy, and Wheel of Fortune, but her greatest joy was spending all her time with her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and her grand dogs.

One of Ida’s favorite things to do was cook for her family.  If you were a close family member or friend, you could expect to get a delicious Sunday meal which possibly consisted of, spareribs, turkey wings, cabbage, collard greens, candied yams, and if you were lucky some sweet potato pie. Yawl know, she would always put her foot in those pots!

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband Adye Dennis, and her brothers, Frank, English, and Cleveland Nelson.  Her sisters; Mary Joyner-Najieb and Grace Rattley.

Ida leaves to cherish her memories, her son, Kenneth Nelson, daughter Monique Alston, Grandsons; Lloyd Nelson, Naquan (Latoya) Claire, Malik Alston, and her only granddaughter-Ebony Nelson, three great-grandsons-Jayden Barker, Mason Claire, and Collin Claire. A host of Nieces and Nephews that were near and dear to her heart. And a host of family members and lifelong friends.
