Mr. Ichiles “June” Terry, 72, of Elkhart, passed peacefully into the presence of his Lord and Savior on Thursday, Feb. 23, 2017 at 4:13 am at the home of his daughter with his family at his side.
June was born in Sikeston, MO on Dec. 24, 1944 to the late Ichiles and Irene (Davis) Terry, Sr., and is survived by his “special friend” (to the end) Jeanette Cantrell of Elkhart.
Also left to cherish his memory are his loving children Rox Ann (Thomas) Nichols of Elkhart, Rose (Elton) Cantrell-Garrett of Wylie, TX, Vernita (Charles) Hawkins of Austin, TX, MsVerna (Lawrence) Halliburton of Elkhart, Cynthia (Ronald) Hatfield-Williams of Saginaw, MI and Dorothy “Dot” Rodgers of Elkhart; devoted grandchildren Latavia (Ron) Henderson, Kyania Nichols, Monica, Shemille, Rayshond and Allen Cantrell, Tavarries Hawkins, Tangara Cross, Iren Rayshond Hatfield and Tiffany S. Hatfield, Welton Terrell Hardin and Starr, Paris, Love and Tyree Rodgers; beloved aunt Jean McAfee, dear cousin Roosevelt Davis, in-laws Steven, Sharon, Edwin, Napoleon and Jonathan Halliburton, as well as a host of great and great-great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by a grandson, Ronnie C. Cantrell.
June was a 1963 graduate of Elkhart High School and enjoyed an illustrious sports career while attending there. He played Football, Track & Field and Basketball, during which time Elkhart received the ISHAA Basketball Championship in both 1962 and 1963. Known as “bumblebee” by many of his friends, June will be best remembered for living his life to the fullest with no regrets.
