Hyde P. Stires, 81, Anderson, died February 1, 2005 at his residence after an extended illness. He was born July 16, 1923 in Indianapolis, Indiana, and was a resident of this area since 1945. He retired from Delco Remy Division of General Motors in 1982 after 31 years of service.

He had previously worked at American Steel Foundries from 1941-1943. He was a 1941 graduate of Alliance High School in Alliance, Ohio. He received B.S. in economics from Columbia College in New York. He served his country in the US Army in WWII as a cryptographer from 1943 to 1945. He was a member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church. He was a member of the YMCA and Edgewood Country Club. He was an Adult Leader in the Boy Scouts of America.

He is survived by his wife whom he married April 11, 1953, Alma E. Eckstein Stires; seven children, Thomas & wife Nancy Stires of Ann Arbor, Michigan, Timothy & wife Pamela Stires of Anderson, Anne & husband Robert Loomis of Chicago, Illinois, Theresa Stires of Anderson, Cynthia & husband Timothy Ruffer of Pendleton,Todd & wife Alice Stires of Indianapolis and Marjorie & husband Gregory Hawkins of LaPorte; grandchildren, Megan Stires, Kevin Stires, Richie Stires, Justin Stires, Amanda Loomis, Steven Loomis, Jason Ruffer, Sarah Ruffer, Ashley Stires, Travis Stires, Adam Hawkins, Aaron Hawkins and Ryan Hawkins; one sister-in-law and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Irwin C. & Annacleta Ruoff Stires and a brother, Irwin C. Stires.
