Hunter Scott McCartney, 33, of Blue Ridge, VA, formerly of Kingwood, WV, died on Friday, May 27, 2016, at his home in Blue Ridge.

Hunter was born October 20, 1982, in Morgantown, WV, the son of James Hunter McCartney and wife Meg Baughman of Morgantown and Susan (Bolyard) Hatcher and husband Jim of Waynesboro, PA.

He was a 2001 graduate of Preston High School and attended WVU. He was a warehouse trainer for Clark Manufacturing in Roanoke, VA. Hunter was a history and science enthusiast, especially about the history of the Civil War era; he enjoyed reading, playing a variety of video games and was very interested in sci-fi. A gentle soul, Hunter was very caring towards all animals but especially for his favorite pet, cats.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by two step-sisters and spouses, Stephanie and Tim Hartsock and Gretchen and Mike Eyler, all of Hagerstown, MD; two uncles and spouses, Wally and Sharon Bolyard of Liberty IN, Ray and Judy Bolyard of Summit Point, WV; three aunts and spouse, Lu Bolyard of Kingsport, TN, Debby McCartney of Morgantown, Alice McCartney Kawashima and husband Kiyo of Greensboro, NC; step-grandmother, Betty (Crickard) McCartney of Morgantown; step-aunts and uncles, Jenny Crickard and husband Emery Tschetter of Auburn, AL, Edna and Glendon Britton of Terra Alta, Bill & Betty Taylor of Terra Alta, Linda Sanders of Rowlesburg, Ronald Taylor of Terra Alta; his childhood buddy and best friend Jason Lewis; close friends Lisa and Kipp Burns; and several cousins.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Hunter Pell and Diane (Ferry) McCartney; maternal grandparents, Charlie and Grace Taylor.
