Hugh Arnold Farmer, Jr. passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 30, 2010 surrounded by his loving wife, children, grandchildren and brother. Hugh was born on October 12, 1931 and was the eldest son of Hugh and Zoe Farmer. Hugh was born and raised in Newnan and raised his own family here. Hugh attended Newnan Schools and was a renowned Newnan High Tiger. While in high school he was an all-star athlete, earning a record 15 letters for various sports. He was recently honored for his athletic accomplishments as the newest inductee into the Coweta County Sports Hall of Fame. After graduating from Newnan High, he attended Auburn University where he was a member of the basketball team. Hugh left Auburn as he was drafted into the military; serving with the 59th Field Artillery in Parmesan, Germany for 2 years. On October 20, 1951, Hugh married his greatest love, making Charlsie Barron his wife. They welcomed their first son, Hugh III in 1953, followed by son Frank in 1956, a daughter, Zoe in 1959, and another daughter, Nan, In 1968. Hugh and Charlsie’s children married giving them 7 grandsons and 2 granddaughters. Hugh was an integral part of his community as a civic leader, coach and businessman. He was president of Fisher Insurance Agency which was started by his mother’s family in 1871. He worked side by side with his father and brother, and then, his sons. Hugh was a lifelong member of Central Baptist Church and the Newnan Country Club. He spent many happy days on the golf course. Hugh had an unending love for golf and all sports, but his greatest love was his wife and the home they made with their children which became filled with the laughter of the grandchildren which he adored. He never missed any opportunity to see them in a school event or on an athletic field. He is survived by his wife, Charlsie Barron Farmer; son Hugh III (Carol); son, Frank (Melody); daughter, Zoe Beavers (Randy); daughter, Nan Bridges (Joe). His grandchildren are Hugh Beavers IV, Randy Beavers, Jr., Cornelia Farmer, Frank Farmer, Jr., Will Beavers, Charlie Farmer, Neal Farmer, Bo Bridges and Zoe Bridges. Also surviving is his brother Tom Farmer and his wife Mary Anne, nephews, nieces and countless cousins and friends.
