Huey Deslattes

October 4, 1929 – March 25, 2020

Huey Deslattes, age 90 of Tuscaloosa, passed away Wednesday, March 25, 2020 at DCH Regional Medical Center.

He was preceded in death by his father, Lester Frank Deslattes; mother, Claire Louise Roussel Deslattes; sisters, Lois Hoffmann (Kenneth) and Dorothy Smalley (Noah); brothers, Calvin Deslattes (Mildred) and Melvin Deslattes.

Mr. Deslattes is survived by his wife, Dorothy Sue Hardin Deslattes; daughter, Vickie Jean Deslattes Davis (Michael); sons, Joseph Huey Deslattes (Linda) and Larry Franklin Deslattes (Robert Engh); sister-in-law, Dot Deslattes; and grandchildren, Stephen Ellis Davis, Chelsea Therese Flesch, Trevor James Flesch, and Zachary Franklin Davis.

Huey was a man of great faith and devotion to God and his family. He was a graduate of Tuscaloosa High School and attended the University of Alabama. He was an honorably discharged veteran of the US Marine Corp and past Grand Knight and Fourth Degree member of The Knights of Columbus Council 4083. Huey and Sue married when she was just seventeen and he was twenty, they were planning to celebrate their 70th wedding anniversary in September. Huey began his career with A&P and after his service in the Marines he continued at A&P and later Piggly Wiggly and Summit Food Center which he subsequently purchased with two partners and renamed Northgate Discount Foods. After retirement, he continued to serve the community through the Knights of Columbus and Holy Spirit Catholic Church. He worked hard to provide for his wife and family and loved spending time with his grandchildren.
