Hubert Ruyle, 91, of Meredosia, died Tuesday, Dec. 29, 2015, at his home.
He was born Dec. 7, 1924, the son of Roy E. and Opal Rausch Ruyle. He married Zelma Allen on July 13, 1946, in Jacksonville and she survives.
He is also survived by one son, Stephen (Carolyn) Ruyle of Meredosia; one daughter, Debra (Robert) Spoon of Arenzville; four grandchildren, Chris Ruyle of Meredosia, Scott (Kim) Ruyle of Chapin, Justin Ruyle of Meredosia and April (Alex) DeSollar of Beardstown; and nine great grandchildren, Zach, Colby and Ava DeSollar, Hayley, Brandon, Mariah and Joel Stinson and Ashley and Alex Ruggles. He was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, Betty Whited and Phyllis Battefeld.
Mr. Ruyle was a 1942 graduate of Meredosia High School. He worked for Grant Dredging for 40 years, retiring as Captain. He was a veteran of World War II, serving as a Staff Sergeant with Company A 18th Regiment 1st Division. He received a Purple Heart on May 18, 1945, after being wounded in action fighting in Germany.
