Hubert Paul “Smokey” Jones, 63, of Galesburg, died at 7:13 a.m. Tuesday, January 27, 2015, at home. Smokey was born November 2, 1951, in Peoria, the son of Paul Edwin and Donna Lee Binegar Jones.
He married Rhonda Rhoades on October 5, 1976, in Galesburg.
He is survived by his wife, Rhonda of Galesburg; his mother, Donna Jones Davis of Galesburg; sons, Gary Jones of Galesburg, Gavin (Heather Scott) Jones of Galesburg, Trintity (Julie) Jones of Panama City, FL, Travis (Sonya) Jones of Galesburg; daughters, Kimberly (Craig) Shumaker of Delong, Suzy (Barry Goodwin) Jones-Goodwin of Galesburg, Lilly and Kelsy Jones still at home; one brother, Donald (Pamela) Jones of Kirkwood; and sisters, Donna (Sandy) Tripp of Mystic, IA, and Carol (Michael) Robinson of Galesburg, 9 grandchildren and one great-grandson.
He is also survived by a special friend, Cody Griswold of Galesburg.
He was preceded in death by his father, a sister, Terry Goudy, and a nephew. Smokey worked as a truck driver at Olson Packaging for several years until he retired due to illness. He was a member of ABATE, the Sportsman’s Club, and the Second Baptist Church. He loved camping, riding his Harley Davidson, and fishing.
