Hubert D. Gherardini, 89 of Centralia, passed away Tuesday, August 26, 2014 at St. Mary’s Good Samaritan Hospital in Centralia. He was born August 22, 1925 in Wamac, son of Emil and Ameila (Grotti) Gherardini.
He married Martha A. (Vogt) Gherardini on May 15, 1948 in Centralia and she preceded him in death on November 8, 2005. Mr. Gherardini is survived by two sons, Robert Gherardini and wife Kathy of Centralia and Mike Gherardini and wife Karen of Shattuc; a daughter, Sue Gherardini-Pas and husband Joe of Centralia; five grandchildren: Melody Whritenour and husband Steve of Centralia, Chad Queen and wife Candice of Washington State, Amy Hummert and husband Ryan of Highland, Trent Gherardini of Chicago, and Annamarie Gherardini Pas of Centralia; five great-grandchildren: Dakota, Nicholas, and Cameron Whritenour of Centralia, Jade and Gage Steinkamp of North Dakota; one brother, Onorio and wife Suzanne of Arkansas; one sister, Marie Miller of Centralia; numerous nieces and nephews and a special friend and dance partner, Margaret “Marge” Cox of Centralia.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Ophelia Brandonesio and Olanda Riley, one granddaughter, Stephanie (Gherardini) Steinkamp. Mr. Gherardini was a member of the Army Air Corps during WWII. He was employed for over 40 years as a Carman welder for the Illinois Central Gulf Railroad. He was a life member of the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge #1219, a life member of the VFW Post #2055, and a life member of the American Legion Post #446. He was a Red Coat at St. Mary’s Hospital in Centralia for 20 years. Mr. Gherardini lived the majority of his life in Centralia. He was a member of St. Peters United Church of Christ in Centralia. He enjoyed dancing, traveling and spending time with his friends and family. Mr. Gherardini was a loving and devoted husband, father, father-in-law, and grandfather.
