Howard Arthur Thompson, son of Allen and Bernice Thompson, was born June 24, 1929, on the family farm south of LuVerne, Iowa where he was also raised. Howard graduated from Vernon Consolidated Schools in 1947. He was drafted into the service in March of 1952 and served in Colorado Springs, Colorado with the 5th Army Artillery Division until March of 1954.
Howard married Betty Lou Movick on March 11, 1955 and to this union four children were born. Howard and Betty farmed south of Ottosen, Iowa most of their married lives. Howard became active in coon hunting and coon hounds about 1975. He, his children and grandchildren raised and trained hunting dogs, including several champions, and sold dog supplies.
Howard was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Ottosen and the American Legion of Ottosen.
Howard was preceded in death by his wife Betty on March 9, 2008 and an infant daughter Cindy.
Survivors include his daughter Holly Thompson of Ogden, Iowa; sons Harlan (Anita) and Blaine (Melanie) Thompson of Ottosen; six grandchildren: John and Christopher Thompson, Ian and Haley Meister, and Cody and Kaylee Thompson; five great grandchildren; and his brother Richard (Joan) Thompson of Bode, Iowa.
