Chief Master Sergeant Howard J. Wright, 84, went to meet his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and his wife of sixty years Hilde after his battle with Liver Cancer on Thursday, June 30, 2016 in the presences of his step-son Karl.  Howard served 29 years in the U.S. Air Force.  His duty assignments included serving on PT boats, listening to Russian communications and Morse code, managing air traffic control, and working in communications intelligence.  His tours of duty took him all over the world.  His first tour of duty was in Germany, intercepting enemy communications.  His next tour took him to France where he served alongside Johnny Cash, who became one of Howard’s favorite country musicians.  He then returned to Germany where he married Hilde.  Returning  to the U.S.

Howard is survived by his step-son, Karl; daughter-in-law Anneliese Abt of VA; granddaughters, Sandra Pilkington and Natalie Abt of VA; Cathy of WY; grandsons, Roy, James, and Howard of WY and Scott of KS; sister-in-law Barbara of NJ; nieces Brenda of FL and Tony of NJ; great-granddaughters Katharina and Rebecca of VA; as well as other cousins, nieces, nephews, and great-grandchildren.

Howard loved baseball, specifically the Atlanta Braves, politics, “taking a puff” on his cigar, and listening to old country music.  He loved running until his legs started to give out.  He then became an avid mall walker enjoying the company and camaraderie of good friends.  When walking became a challenge, Howard began meeting the guys at McDonalds for breakfast.  It wasn’t unusual for the group to discuss politics and solve the world’s problems.  Howard was blessed to enjoy the many wonderful friends and neighbors in his Northgate community.   He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
