Howard “Deke” Albert Lane, 54, of Indianapolis, passed away on July 22, 2022.
Deke was born in Indianapolis, IN on March 31, 1968 to David and Barbara (Herb) Lane. Deke as most people knew him, fell and broke his leg. After several surgeries and an amputation, we were hopeful that he would make a full recovery and be back home in no time. Sadly, he has been back and forth between the hospital and nursing home since that day. For eight long months, his family and friends watched as he fought for his life; but on July 22nd, surrounded by his daughters and grandkids, he took his last breath.
Deke was a gentle giant with a huge heart. He loved his kids, grandkids, extended family, and friends so deeply… if they needed anything, he would do anything he could to be there and to support those he cared about. Though I wasn’t related to him by blood, Deke never once made me feel like anything less than family… I was a part of his family, and he made sure I knew that. I never got to thank him, tell him how much I appreciated his kindness, or even say goodbye.
Deke was survived by his daughters Jamie Lane and Carlotta (Jory) Fisher; his grandchildren Leon, Kyndall, Kimberly, and Malarie; and his brothers David Earl Lane, Jason Lane, and Rusty Lane.
Deke is preceded in passing by his parents David and Barbara Lane and his dog Little Bit.
