Howard C. Heininger, 92, of Washington passed away at 8:30am, Thursday, December 1, 2016 at Unity Point Health Proctor in Peoria, IL.

He was born on May 5, 1924 in Peoria the son of the late Edward P. and Emma M. Bockler Heininger. He married Marian Helmick in 1947 and she passed away in 1957. He then married Mary E. Stein on April 23, 1959 in Washington, IL. and she survives.

Also surviving are five children Judy (Dennis) Stroup of St. Peters, MO; Mark Stein of Wauconda, IL; Sandy (Eldon) Schappaugh of East Peoria; Mary Jo (David) Spencer of Heyworth, IL; and Ray (Patty) Heininger of St. Peters, MO. Also surviving are 12 grandchildren; and 8 great grandchildren. Further surviving is one brother Don Heininger of Metamora. He was preceded in death by one sister Evelyn Hampy.

Howard was an honorably discharged U.S. Navy Veteran proudly serving his country from 1943 until 1946 serving as a gunner on the USS New Jersey during the Asiac Pacific Campaign. He was a truck driver for Texaco and drove over 2 million miles for without an accident retiring in 1980. He also worked many weekends for Harold Bockler Excavating.

Howard had many enjoyments in life including fishing at their place at Kentucky Lake, was an avid gardener and enjoyed playing Euchre at the VFW in Washington. He was a lifelong member of St.
