Horace Odell Burgess, Sr., 79, of 2631 Parks Lafferty Road, Concord, died on September 4, 2009, at his home. He was born on July 19, 1930, in Mecklenburg County. He was the owner and operator of Quality Erection, a steel erecting company.
Mr. Burgess was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He was a member of Bogerâs Chapel United Methodist Church and Union Masonic Lodge #618 A.F. & A.M. He was a former member of the Oasis Temple in Charlotte.
Horace was a loving husband for 31 years. His children and grandchildren were his pride and joy. He brought happiness to all. He never met a stranger, and he made friends with everyone he met.
Survivors include his wife, Linda Burgess, of the home; sons, Horace “Dell” Burgess, Jr., of Concord and Clifford Wayne Burgess, of Concord; daughters, Patti Gauthier, of Marshville, and Lori Ann Burgess Horton, of Concord; brothers, Mallie “M.O.” Burgess, Jr., of Charlotte, and Robert Burgess, of Midland; and grandchildren, Michael, Josh, Barbara, Justin, Adam and Zackery.
He was preceded in death by his father, Mallie Oncie Burgess, and his mother, Bertie Lee Cochran Burgess.
