Hope Elizabeth (Robertson) Benson, 100, of Lostant, passed away Sunday, April 4, 2010 at St. Margarets Hospital in Spring Valley.
Mrs. Benson was born on October 22, 1909 in Cazenovia, IL to Wallace and Hulda (Herron) Robertson. She married Mervin Smaling in 1931; he was killed in 1947. She then married Charles Mason in 1950 and Richard Benson in 1954. She graduated from Browns Business College in Peoria. She worked at Caseys General Store in Lostant and was Villiage Clerk in Lostant for many years. She was a member of Lostant United Methodist Church, Order of the Eastern Star for more than 75 years.
She is survived by one daughter; Joanne Smaling Hartenbower of rural Lostant; one son, Oral (Donna Heider) Smaling of Normal; one step-son, Richard Benson, Jr. of Jordan, MN; 8 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; 4 great great grandchildren; 5 step-grandchildren; 10 step-great grandchildren and 4 step great great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; 3 husbands, one sister, and two brothers.
Pallbearers will be Larry Smaling, Robert Carnduff, Michael Carnduff, David Purdy, Steven Purdy, and Kellen Watkins.
