Hollis Erwin Fair, 89, of Heber Springs, and longtime resident of Forrest City, Arkansas passed away Sunday, December 18, 2016 in Searcy, Arkansas.

 

Hollis was born in Oden, Arkansas to Henry Alvin and Dessie Leona (Barber) Fair on November 29, 1927. He was the youngest of eight children: Raymond, Bernice, Sharon, Juanita, Neubern, Wanda and Winnie. At 16, Hollis joined the Navy and served in the Pacific during WWII. When he returned to the States after serving his country, he married Judith Stiles of Aubrey. The couple were married until Judy’s death in 1967. He later married Joyce (Renfro) Chism of Forrest City and were married until his death.

 

During his career days and particularly after retirement, Hollis could be found working in his garden or his workshop, serving at church, or spending time with family. He was a man of integrity who had a heart for people, and a keen insight and wisdom as a father. He will be greatly missed.

 

Hollis leaves behind his wife of 47 years, Joyce Fair of Heber Springs; sons Larry Fair and wife Melanie of Bridgeport, Texas, Donnie and Wayne Chism, formerly of Forrest City, and Michael Chism, of Forrest City ; daughter Peggy Smith and husband Tim of Forrest City; grandchildren Laura Moore and husband Scott of Wylie, Texas, Stacy Bost of Lubbock, Texas, Taylor Chism of Forrest City, Lauren Smith of Forrest City, and Savannah Chism of Elgin, Illinois; great-grandchildren Bella and Grayson Moore of Wylie, Chay Long of Jonesboro, Arkansas, and Paisley Chism of Forrest City; and numerous nieces and nephews.
