Hildur Gerda Lovel died peacefully in her sleep Tuesday, September 20, 2016, at the age of 95. A longtime resident of Troy and Moscow, Idaho, she was born in Fort Frances, Ontario, Canada to Swedish immigrants Gerda Adolfina and Leonard Anders Widing. Hildur was raised in Kootenai, Idaho, and graduated from Sandpoint High School, where she met her future husband R. Cecil Lovel. They lived in Bonners Ferry and Plummer before moving to Moscow in 1951, where they operated Lovel Lumber and Supply and built and managed many rental units. In 1973 they moved to a ranch near Troy. Mr. Lovel died in 1975. Hildur had a quick wit and loved to joke and laugh and have fun with people. She had many dearly loved friends and continued to make friends her whole life. She touched everyone she met with her infectious warmth and sense of humor. She was a founding member of Moscow Garden Club and belonged to Women of the Moose, Roadrunners, Moscow Jr. Rodeo Assn. and Idaho Oldtime Fiddlers. She was a talented cook, writer, artist, gardener and musician, who played honky-tonk piano and accordion by ear and loved to dance. Hildur is survived by daughters Mabel Vogt, Potlatch; Shirley Steffen(Steve), Troy; Deborah Carlson, Pullman, WA; son Richard C. Lovel(Emma), Boise; sister-in-law Betty Widing, Seattle; and several nieces and nephews. Her grandchildren are Andrea Vogt(Marco Bittelli), Anna Vowels(Jacob), Kathleen Kern(Davey), Scott Steffen(Kilie), Kendra Carlson, Atle Carlson, Evan Lovel(Anna) and Gabriella Olivares. Great-grandchildren include Enrico and Cecilia Bittelli; Tyann Kern; Jaxon, Elena and Jace Vowels; and Bentley Steffen. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, brother Lorents Widing and sisters Mabel Widing and Lilly Harwood.
