Hilda Anna Schreffler Phelps, age 93, passed peacefully Monday early evening at The Monarch House, Newnan, GA. She was born on December 22, 1924 in Ashland, PA to the late Monroe Schreffler and Minnie Heim Schreffler. After graduating from Lankenau School of Nursing, Philadelphia, PA, she rose to the rank of 1st Lieutenant in the Army Nurse Corps, 1949-1954. After officer training at Fort Sam Houston (TX), she was stationed at the Tokyo Army Hospital in Japan earning the Korean Service Medal and eventually discharged from the Fort Indiantown Gap, PA Military Residence Center. On September 12, 1953 she married Richard F. Phelps. As a RN she held various nursing positions while raising her family until she retired in 1989.
She is survived by her daughter, Constance A. Brown, son-in-law, T. M. “Mike” Brown, Grantville, GA, son, Thomas R. Phelps, Tampa, FL, grandsons, Matthew M. Brown, Woodstock, GA, Russell T. Brown, Wilder, KY, and five great grandchildren, Noah, Brannon, Natalie, Eli, and Dillon. Along with her parents, Hilda is preceded in death by siblings, Mary C. Schreffler, Elwood Schreffler, Nettie Schreffler-Metzinger and Irene Schreffler-Schwab.
