Herman Louis Bishop, 84, a life-long resident of Edwardsburg, died Friday, December 7, 2012, in Grand Rapids Home for Veterans with his daughters, Dawn and Penny at his side. He was born December 19, 1927 at home in Edwardsburg, to Leroy and Mary Hazel (Cook) Bishop. He married Carol Marie Zimmer on August 14, 1947 in Edwardsburg.

She preceded him in death on October 4, 2005. He was also preceded in death by one grandson, Jonathan Roberts; one great granddaughter, Chole Knepp; one sister Edna Gailhouse; and two brothers, Arthur and Stanley Bishop.Herman retired as a millwright from Miles Laboratories in Elkhart, Indiana. He was a farmer his entire life and built his own barn and home.

Herman served in the Army Air Corps and was a member of the Edwardsburg American Legion and a former member of the Cass County Sheriff’s Posse, a member of the NRA, and EAA Chapter 132, Elkhart, Indiana. His hobbies included animals (especially dogs and cats), antiques, genealogy, history, traveling, and sitting on the porch drinking coffee and enjoying home cooked meals.

He had a passion for hot air balloons and flying.Herman was baptized in September, 2007 at Granger Community Church in Granger, Indiana.Herman will be greatly missed by family and friends. He is survived by three daughters, Dawn (Bob) Nyerges of Edwardsburg, Penny (Mark) Werner of Edwardsburg, and Myra; seven grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; one brother, Kenneth Bishop, Sr. of Edwardsburg.
