Herbert Klinedinst, 89, of Three Oaks, Michigan died Monday afternoon, July 7, 2008

.Herb was born February 12, 1919, in Marshall County, Indiana to Joseph and Ethel (Campbell) Klinedinst and graduated from Edwardsburg High School.

He served his country in the US Army during World War II and later became chairman of the 42nd Rainbow Division for 17 years. On February 8, 1941, he married Nan Harder, his wife of 67 years. The Klinedinsts moved to Three Oaks in 1958.

Herb was a local business owner and active civic leader. He owned Dunes Furniture Store in Sawyer for 38 years. Herb was a trustee at the New Buffalo Savings Bank for 15 years; a councilman for the Village of Three Oaks for 18 years; and served as Mayor of Three Oaks for 9 years.

He was president of the River Valley Senior Center for 14 years and was a member of the Three Oaks United Methodist Church for over 50 years. Survivors include his wife, Nan; son Bernie (Linda) Klinedinst of Three Oaks; grandchildren, Sheila (Johnny) Pappa; Michael (Tracy) Kjiergaard; Debbie (Shawn) Cram, and Chad Harrington; great-grandchildren, Nicole, Brittney, Abigail, Hannah, Haley, Lindsey, Luke, Kelsey, and Lauren; sister, Erma Calahan of Corpus Christi, Texas and half brothers, David Klinedinst of Iowa and Brent Klinedinst of Georgia.

Herb was preceded in death by his daughter, Nancy Harrington, sister Betty Rader and brothers, Lester, Forest, Alfred, Robert, Richard, and Dale.
