Herbert Allen Kaiser was born May 21, 1926 to John and Dever (Akkerman) Kaiser at Rockford, Iowa. He was the youngest of 11 children. Herb graduated from country school and then began working on the family farm. At the age of 22 he enlisted in the Army for 2 years. On his way back from Panama to the U.S. to be discharged; his enlistment was extended for another year due to the outbreak of the Koran Conflict. He was then sent to Germany, giving him the opportunity to visit the area where his dad was born.
While at a dance he met Regina Laubenthal who would become his wife. Their courtship included going to dances and while in service through letter writing. Following his discharge from the Army they were united in marriage on September 24, 1951 at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Herb and Regina started farming following their marriage around the LuVerne area. In addition to his farming he sold seed corn for 40 years. They enjoyed several trips through his sales. Herb was a member of the St. Cecelia Catholic Church, the Algona Senior Center and lifetime member of the American Legion.
Herb enjoyed playing cards and was a member of several card clubs. He kept up with farming through magazines and newspapers and always looking for memorabilia on Massey tractors. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, camping trips, and spending family time with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Herb was noted for his sense of humor.
Herb is survived by his wife Regina of 63 years, Children: Helen Larson of Greenfield, Joe (Vickie) Kaiser of LuVerne, Sharon (John) Hyink and Wayne (Beverly) Kaiser all of Algona, 9 Grandchildren; Nick (Bonnie) Hyink, Ryan (Missy) Larson, Anna (Pat) Wyatt, Kay Kaiser, Barb (Michael) Engel, Kelly (Keenan) Schipper, Kenny Kaiser, James (Teresa) Larson and Amy Kaiser, 12 Great Grandchildren, sister-in-laws Celia Kaiser of Charles City, Imelda Krieger (Kenny), Mason City, Marguerite Laubenthal, Wesley, brother-in-laws, Merle Laubenthal (Jeannie), Algona, and Glen Gindling, Waterloo as well as many nieces and nephews who were very important to him. He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Mary Ann, grandson, Randy Kaiser, brothers, Oltman, Dick, Johnny, Louie, Hank, and sisters, Lena, Clara, Vera, Viola, and Alice.
