Those left to honor Herbert’s memory are his wife, Myrtle of Newton; son, Kenny Schwarz (and Debbie) of Newton; 2 daughters, Karen (and Paul) Slycord of Mitchellville, Iowa and Kathy Hawkins of Des Moines; his 7 grandchildren, Kim (and Mike) Clemons of Marshalltown, Jeff (and Julie) Slycord of Mitchellville, Rodney (and Abby) Hawkins of Runnells, Rhonda Hawkins of Des Moines, and Shane, Kayne, and Levi Schwarz of Newton; and 7 great-grandchildren, Jessica, Casey, Michael, Samantha, Taylor, Sarah, Hannah, and one great-grandchild on the way.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Francis and Lorna (Snyder) Schwarz; 2 brothers, Floyd and Calvin Schwarz; 1 granddaughter; and a son-in-law.
Herbert was a farmer, had worked at Maytag, and was the owner/operator of Schwarz Trucking.
He was a member of the American Legion Post 111, Last Man’s Club, VFW Post 1655, and the Izaak Walton League.
