Herbert W.F. Bowers, 87, of Hanover, PA, formerly of Taneytown, died peacefully Tuesday, July 17, 2012 at Hanover Hospital Center in Hanover, PA. Born December 27, 1924 in Taneytown, he was the son of the late Geary and Ruth Fissel Bowers. He was the husband of Maxine Fream Bowers, to whom he was married for 62 years.
Herbert was a 1944 graduate of Taneytown High School. He served in the United States Navy for 2 years following graduation. He was an active member of the Taneytown Lions Club for 47 years where he served as both president and treasurer. He was a life-long member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Taneytown where he sang in the choir and in various choral groups for many years. He was also the congregation’s first council president. Herbert was an accomplished carpenter and cabinet-maker and helped construct many homes in the Taneytown area. His humorous, witty character brought happiness to everyone he met.
Surviving in addition to his wife are daughters, Bonnie Addison and husband Robert of Hanover, PA, and Pattie Blouse and husband, Michael, of Dublin, VA; 6 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by sisters, Viola Staley and Mary Fair, and by brothers, Donald and Robert Bowers.
