Henry “Hank,” Fischer passed away on January 23 rd , 2018 at his home in Owosso, MI. He was 91 years old. Hank was born on March 24 th , 1926 to his parents Amelia and Frederick Fischer. He married the love of his life Maradean on April 30 th , 1948 after they both served during World War II. He was a proud member of the United States Army Air Corps. Henry and Maradean moved to Owosso, MI in 1978. A generous father, husband, grandpa, and friend; Mr. Fischer enjoyed driving for Slingerland Motors in his later years and was incredibly proud of his long history in the grocery store industry as a meat buyer for Hamady Brothers and eventually the owner of his own store, Fischer’s Fine Foods. Hank had a zest for life, golf, and all things historical. Being “Grandpa Fischer,” was probably his favorite pastime. He spent his summers teaching his grandchildren how to golf and discern “good deals,” at VG’s, and his winters painting, refinishing furniture and basically prepping for getting back on the golf course. He often shocked his family announcing his first day back out on the course in February. It seems fitting that he left the cold of Michigan and this earthly life in late January, most likely entering through the pearly gates with golf clubs in hand. Hank is survived by his children; Pamela (and Richard) Friebus, Nancy Toben, Donald (and Theresa) Fischer, and Catherine (and Marvin) Crawford; his sister Frieda (and Jim) Dagley; nine grandchildren and four great grand -daughters. He is preceded in death by his parents; Frederick and Amelia Fischer, his wife Maradean Fischer, and siblings; Fred, Ferdy, Harry, Victor, and Wayne. Hank loved to tell stories about his days in the service, the history of Flint, the emerging grocery store industry, the Fischer’s escape from Russia, and the most important history to the current Fischer Family; the love story he and Maradean shared. He was Maradean’s primary care giver in her later years and took over many house making roles. Despite all that Hank Fischer did in his life, he was probably most honored to hold the role of “husband.” His family and friends can be comforted in knowing that he’s reunited with Maradean. Hank knew how to appreciate the little things in life; a riveting episode of Law & Order, new lacquer on an old table brought back to life, the perfect (or weirdest looking) carrot from his garden, a freshly sharpened kitchen knife, or a drawing from a grandchild all would bring on that crooked smile that could light up a room. His energy will be missed, but never forgotten. Each time we pass a golf course, smell bacon and eggs, or spy a good deal on toothpicks a little bit of Hank will shine again. Henry “Hank” Fischer’s family will welcome visitors at Nelson-House Funeral Homes-Owosso Chapel Thursday from 4pm to 8pm. A memorial service will be held 2pm Friday, January 26, 2018 at Salem Lutheran Church in Owosso with Pastor James Bare officiating.
