Obituary of Henry F. Retting

RETTING, Henry F. of Saginaw Township, Michigan passed away on Sunday, May 5, 2013 at Aleda E. Lutz VA Medical Center. He was 95 years old. Henry Retting was born on October 10, 1917 to the late Henry C. and Esther (Gehrls) Retting. He married Dolores A. Galonska on February 10, 1945; she survives him.

Henry graduated from Saginaw High School in 1935. During World War II, he proudly served his country in the Army Air Force from 1942 until 1945 in the Alaska Defense Command. After his honorable discharge, he was employed at the Lufkin Rule as a draftsman for 35 years. During his lifetime, he spent 15 years at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church as a Sunday School Superintendent, 17 years as a member of the Big Brothers, and 6 years as a Scoutmaster. In his spare time, he enjoyed spending the winters at Lady Lake, Florida, and the summers at the cottage in Lupton, Michigan.

Surviving are wife of 68 years, Dolores; two nieces, Kathy (Mike) Gembarowski and JoAnn Brogan; and many more nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Alice and Eleanor.
