Helga Bobring Kurpiers

July 6, 1938 – February 12, 2022

Helga Bobring Kurpiers of Boca Raton entered eternal life on Saturday, February 12, 2022. She was 83 years old. She is survived by her devoted husband, Wolfgang Kurpiers; daughter Sabine (Jeffrey) Woy; son Michael (Margaret) Kurpiers; sister Connie Grosstuck; and grandchildren Madison, Sarah, Jessica, Melissa, and Luke. She was preceded in death by her parents, Wilhelm and Margaret Bobring, and her brother Gerd Bobring.

Helga was born July 6, 1938 in Northeim, Germany, where she grew up in a home filled with art and music. Her family also had a beautiful retreat in the small town of Sieber in the Harz mountains.

At the young age of 18, Helga met her husband Wolfgang in her hometown of Northeim. After dating for several years, Helga and Wolfgang married in 1961, starting their 60-year journey together. Not long after their wedding, the couple moved to the United States, living in Illinois, Ohio, Michigan, Connecticut, and finally Florida. Each move was a challenging but exciting transition for her and her family.

Helga was well educated and excellent with numbers. Early in her life, she managed her father’s business, and she stayed involved with it throughout her life. In Florida she was an active member of her neighborhood association, chairing the maintenance committee and overseeing many improvement projects. While her son was in high school, Helga volunteered as a nurse assistant where she demonstrated her compassionate and nurturing spirit. Her true calling was raising her children and managing her active family. She found joy in passing on German traditions to Sabine and Michael, and in family trips to her beloved Sieber.

Helga was a talented pianist, painter and chef, and she passed these skills on to her children and grandchildren. She took delight in classical music and beautiful artwork. Following in her father’s footsteps, Helga found relaxation in painting, seeing the beauty in all things nature. She loved long walks in the woods, both in Germany and in North Carolina, and along the beaches in Boca Raton, where she could hear the birds sing and the waves crash. She enjoyed a fine piece of dark chocolate, a good glass of Chianti and long conversations with her family and friends.

There are so many great memories of Helga and how she touched the people around her. Here are just a few:

-Children and grandchildren snuggling on the back porch in Boca, listening to the bullfrogs well past bedtime
-Playing card games like Skip-Bo and Old Maid, aka Schwarzer Peter
-Receiving her carefully curated gift boxes, with items thoughtfully selected for each individual and artistically wrapped in pretty paper and ribbons. Even the shipping boxes and envelopes were decorated.
-Cozying up to her on the piano bench while she played beautiful classical music

-Going totally bonkers during the beach rejuvenation and collecting buckets and buckets and buckets of seashells
-Family vacations with her to Northern Michigan, Niagara Falls, the Green Mountains, the Maine coast, North Carolina, and Germany
-Swimming in the pool with her while trying not to get her hair wet
-Long peaceful walks – on the boardwalks at her beloved Red Reef Park, Point Pelee Marsh and Green Cay Wetlands.

Helga will be dearly missed and always loved.

Kindly keep Helga and her family in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
