Helene (Jakob) Grzelak, 90, of New Britain, died peacefully on Tuesday, Aug. 26, 2014, in the comfort of her home with her family at her side. She was the beloved wife of the late Mieczyslaw “Mike” Grzelak. Born in Poland, she was a New Britain resident for most of her life. Helene loved cooking Polish food for her family and enjoyed visiting the casinos. A devoted and loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother, she leaves six children, her son Joseph Grzelak of Torrington and Marcia Stemm of Bristol, daughters Monica Grzelak of Winterhaven, FL, Irene Mills of Bristol, Wanda Sullivan and her husband Dan of Woodstock, Mary Linda Alteri and her husband Dan of Farmington, and son David Grzelak of Arlington, VA; eight grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her son Richard J. Grzelak.
