Helen Zakutny, of Mountaindale, NY, passed away on the evening of Thursday, November 25, 2021. She was surrounded by her husband and children and passed peacefully at age 91.

Helen was born in Slovakia on April 9, 1930, to Andrej Radacovsky and Maria Partilova Radacovsky. Upon her arrival to the United States, she was employed as a chef at a number of exclusive New York City restaurants that specialized in Czechoslovakian cuisine. In her later years she transitioned into the business sector and was employed at Equitable Life Insurance until her retirement. In her pastime, Helen was a very avid gardener, pastry baker whose carrot cake was a renowned and beloved by all who tried it. Most importantly, her generosity and kindness were well known and felt by all who crossed path in life.     

She was a member of Jednota Fraternity for Women, as well as the Slovak Country Club. She was a devout communicant at St. Mary’s and St. Andrew’s Catholic Church in Ellenville and St. John Nepomucene in New York City.

Helen is survived by her loving husband of 71 years, Michael Zakutny, whom she married in 1950; her children, Bozena Kennedy and her husband Robert, Dr. Emil Zakutny and his spouse, Patricia Fay-Zakutny; Helen Kimmel and her husband, John; three of her four grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and seven great-great-grandchildren; and one of her four siblings.
