Helen Patricia Coutermarsh, 66, passed away on Monday, January 18, 2016 at Heatherwood Nursing Home, Newport, RI. Helen was born on June 23, 1949 in Lebanon, New Hampshire, a daughter of the late Ernest Richard Coutermarsh and the late Eileen Veronica (Baumer) Coutermarsh.
Helen lived most of her life in California. Helen was the C.O.O. of a high-risk insurance firm in California.
Helen is survived by siblings Ernest Jr (wife Diane), Theresa, Anna, Deanna, Delores, Noreen, Joseph and Richard and many other family and friends who will miss her dearly.
In the words of one of her nephews:
My aunt Patricia Coutermarsh has passed away. My Aunt Patty was a trailblazer. She rose up from modest roots, a proud daughter of Lebanon, New Hampshire. In the 1970’s -the era of Ron Burgundy- my aunt Patty kicked in the door of the “Old Boys Club,” smashing through every glass ceiling on her way to becoming one of America’s first female corporate heads in the insurance industry. My aunt Patty could shoot the bulls-eye out of a target with an automatic rifle; loved flying loops in WWII open cockpit fighter planes and was an avid skydiver. She had a hardy, infectious laugh and loved her brandy. She was dramatic, stubborn and brilliant. She was truly one of a kind. She was my Aunt Patty, and I am sad she is gone. Bon voyage, Aunt Patty. I love you.
