Helen Marie Dean, 89, passed away Wednesday, May 27, 2020 in Kalamazoo. She was born January 31, 1931 in Allison, Arkansas a daughter of Augustus and Sarah (Long) Harrell. Helen moved to Michigan and graduated from Decatur High School. Helen worked in the accounting offices of Robert E. Green, Realtor and Greenleaf Realty. In her free time, she enjoyed bowling, knitting, sewing, crocheting, reading, and working puzzles.
She also enjoyed making big family dinners for Christmas, Thanksgiving, Easter and all the family gatherings. After Helen retired, she enjoyed traveling, especially her trip to Hawaii and visiting her daughter in California. She also volunteered at Senior Services, Inc. of Southwest Michigan. On October 25, 1950, Helen married Gordon R. Dean who preceded her in death on November 3, 2000.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Yvonne Douglas; grandsons Michael Douglas and Steven Douglas; sister, Ernestine Goodrich; and brothers, Minor Harrell and Merideth Harrell. Helen is survived by her daughter, Connie (Gary) Morton; granddaughters, Stephenie (Pete Pierson) Douglas, Misti Douglas, Amanda Morton and Elizabeth Morton; great-grandchildren, Peter Pierson, Alexis Pierson, Makayla Johnson, Abby Johnson, Emma Johnson, Blake Johnson, Connor Clampet, Dakota Clampet, Nashoba Wallace, Zack Browning, Chloe Douglas, Steven Douglas, III and Joah Liam Peterson; sister, Ruby Walton; brother, Augustus Harrell, Jr.; and several nieces and nephews.
