Helen L. Gilleland, 87, of Jacksonville, died Wednesday, March 26, 2008, in Jacksonville. She was born Aug. 1, 1920, in Alsey, the daughter of George and Alma Talkington Whitaker. She married Raymond Gotschall in 1940 in Jacksonville and he preceded her in death in March of 1945. She later married Harvey Gilleland in Roodhouse and he preceded her in death on Oct. 24, 1968.

She is survived by one daughter, Bernita Parker of Jacksonville; five grandchildren, Sherri (husband, David) Helmich of Virginia, Susan (husband, Terry) Lyons of Mt. Pulaski, Raymond (wife, Janine) Parker of Rushville, Janet (husband, Marty) Jones of Meredosia and Brenda Sullivan of Jacksonville; eighteen great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and one brother, George (wife, Patty) Caudle of Palmyra.

She was preceded in death by one brother, Otis Caudle.

Mrs. Gilleland was a graduate of Jacksonville High School. She worked as a property control manager for Illinois School for the Visually Impaired in Jacksonville for over thirty years retiring in 1992. She was of the Baptist faith. Mrs. Gilleland loved working in her yard and especially enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.
