Helen G. Thompson, 101, of the Village at Mariner’s Point, East Haven, died May 25, 2011 at Connecticut Hospice. She had been a dedicated teacher for many years. Born March 1, 1910 in New Haven to Henry and Annie Greifzu, Helen grew up in the city’s Hill Section, then resided in West Haven for 72 years before moving to East Haven. She was predeceased by her husband of 58 years, Ellsworth Thompson; also by brothers, Henry and Roland Greifzu. Three daughters survive her: Anne (William) Thompson of West Haven, Carole Holm of East Haven and Ellen Thompson of North Haven; also seven grandchildren Scott Grey, Lisa Sylvester, Kimberly Herard, Julie Greene, Jeffrey Holm, Christopher Holm-Denoma and Jennifer Holm; also 14 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. A New Haven Normal School and SCSU graduate, Helen first taught at Troop Junior High School, New Haven. Then following an interval as a fulltime mom, she taught at Colonial Park School, West Haven from 1950 to 1975.
