Helen Georgia Robinson Gardner Dewey was born to Paul and Edith Robinson on April 5, 1929 at the family home in Cathart, Washington. She attended Cathart Grade School and Snohomish High School. She married Gordon Gardner in 1946. They had 4 children. They were later divorced. She enjoyed working as a waitress, and she last worked at the Nobby Inn (now the Breakfast Club) in Moscow, Idaho.
