Helen E. Danenberger, 101, a former Ashland, IL resident, passed away in Springfield on Tuesday, October 20, 2020. She was born January 23, 1919, in Ashland, the daughter of Robert and Violet Wankel Viands. She married Don Danenberger in 1938 and he preceded her in death on Jan. 23, 1990.

She is survived by one granddaughter, Tiffani (Chris) Caudle of Springfield; two great-grandchildren, Kyle Hagen of Austin, TX, and Caitlyn (Adam) Shiplett of Akron, OH; great-great-granddaughter, Eva Shiplett of Akron, OH; cousins Frances Suitor and Carolyn Brogdon, both of Jacksonville; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her daughter and son-in-law, Tonia and Bill Hagen; one grandson, Eric Hagen; two sisters, Mildred Thornley and Virgie Adams; one brother, Robert Viands; and a nephew, Larry Adams.

Helen enjoyed playing cards, gardening, and dancing. She taught school in a one-room country school, Crows Point, while her husband served in the Army during World War II. Helen worked for 22 years as a supervisor of the control unit of Federal Disability. After retirement, she and her husband moved to their new home in Marion Oaks, Florida, and lived there for 12 years until her husband passed away. She then moved back to Ashland, and in 2012 she moved to Springfield.
