Helen was born on November 19, 1918, to Merle and Christina Pfost, in Nampa, Idaho. After living her younger years in California, she returned to Idaho where she attended schools in Boise, and finished High School in Nampa. It was there she met her only love, Claude H. Duval, Jr., the son of a pioneer Nampa family. She was 13 and he was 15 when they started seeing one another. They married on March 22, 1941. “June” as he was known, entered the Army and was deployed overseas in WWII, three weeks before the birth of Renee, their first daughter. He returned in 1945 and they enjoyed a short life together until he died on March 20, 1958. By that time, they had a son, Stephen “Skip”, and a daughter Charlene.

Survivors include: daughters: Renee (Gene) Ashby, Butte, MT; Charlene (Leonard) Moug, Cascade, MT; son: Skip Duval, Nampa, Idaho; Grand/great-grandchildren: Steve (Jacqueline) Ashby, and Ryan of Butte; Dave (Angie) Ashby, and Riley and Connor of Helena; Susanne Ashby of Butte; Mark Ashby, Houston, TX; Camille (Todd) La Bronte, Meridian Idaho, T.J. LaBronte and Hollyann (Kyle) Williamson, both of Meridian, ID; Brian Duval, Kuna Idaho, and Chad and Jake Duval, Kuna.
