Griswold – Helen Bordeleau, 96, of Bitgood Road passed away peacefully at home on Sunday January 10, 2021.  

Born on November 12, 1924 to the late Efrim and Mary (Kochin) Bonchuk of Pachaug, Helen was one of four children and lived her entire life in Griswold.  On May 14, 1949 she married Albert R Bordeleau and shared nearly 71 years of marriage together.

Helen enjoyed several careers during her life, working at the Asponook Mill, Plastic Wire and Cable company, Zuckerbrauns Department Store, and the First National Grocery store from which she retired. Helen had also been active in the cub scout and girl scout communities with her children.  Helen was an avid quilter for many years often holding quilting sessions and instruction.  For 23 years Helen also participated in the Women’s Health Initiative, a long term national health study hosted by the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute.

Helen is survived by her children Albert J. Bordeleau and his wife Pennee of Durham Maine, James A. Bordeleau and his wife Linda of Griswold, and Joan M. Gelinas Warkentien and her husband Allan of Suffield.  She is also survived by her grandchildren Adam, Kim, Craig, Jeff, Michael, Kristen and 10 great grandchildren.
