Helen Bolander, 92, of Fortville, passed away Friday, September 28, 2012 surrounded by her family. She was born November 6, 1919 in Indiana to Aaron and Myrtle (McKinstray) Sylvester. Helen was a homemaker and a retired library aide at Fortville Elementary and Mt. Vernon High School. She graduated from Fortville High School and Indiana Business College.

Helen was a member of the Fortville United Methodist Church where she was active in the Women’s Group and the Elderberries (now known as the OWLS). She had also been active in the Hancock County Home Economics Extension Homemakers and volunteered as a poll worker during elections.

Helen is survived by husband Stuart H. Bolander, whom she married March 23, 1940, daughters: Mary Beth (Tom) Flanagan and Jane Ann Blanton (fiancé Dave Garst); grandchildren: Kelly (Jerry) Stokesbary, Kimberly (Brendan) Hartnett, Craig (Sara) Blanton and Scott Blanton; 6 great-grandchildren; niece Judy (Max) Griffey and several great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; sister Mary Dillman, a great-granddaughter Claire; sister-in-law Marthellen Hogue, brother-in-law Floyd Bolander and in-laws Guy and Mattie Bolander.
