Winsted: Helen B. Nelson, 91, of Smith Hill Road, passed away on Monday, April 27, 2009, at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital in Torrington. She was the wife of the late Frederick W. Nelson who died in 1989. Born in Winsted, October 24, 1917, daughter of the late John and Mary (Boutin) Beach, she had lived here all of her life. Prior to her retirement she had been an elementery School teacher at the Mary P. Hinsdale School for 35 years. She was a member of the Catholic Womens Club, the Garden Club, the Third Order of St. Francis and loved her volunteer work at the former Winsted Memorial Hospital Thrift Shop. Her survivors include a beloved daughter, Mary A. Nelson and a brother, William Beach, both of Winsted and several nieces and nephews. For the past 7 years, Mary Margrof, Cheryl Jones, Rose Finneran and Rita Vaccari have been a special part of her life, as caregivers.
