Heidi A. Badman Smith, 57, of Edwardsburg, passed away in her home following an extended illness at 2:14 a.m. Saturday, March 7.
She was born in Shell Lake, Wis., on Aug. 8, 1957, to the late William and Ann (Johnson) Koski.
In 2005, she married James “JW” Smith in Cass County. He survives at home.
Surviving are her son, Joe (Robyn) Colassaco of Edwardsburg; daughters Michelle Borowski of Sevierville, Tenn., Nicole Borowski of LaPorte, Ind., and Lecta Smith of Mishawaka, Ind.; brothers Gene (Jean) Koski of the Washington, D.C., area, Fred Koski of Minneapolis and Randy Koski of Iron Belt, Wis.; and grandchildren James DeWitt, Joseph and Alexis Mazurkiewicz, Sarah Ward, Destyni Zollinger, Jacob and Jon McKibbin, Merlin and Luminita Colassaco, William, Dominck and Lily Smith and Rachel, Destiny, David, Jamie, William, Serina, Malacki, Yasmine and Olivia Borowski.
Heidi was preceded in death by her son, James William Badman, who passed Jan. 17, 1987, and brothers Ray and Kim Koski and Aubry and Everett Otterholt.
Heidi served as a licensed practical nurse in the Elkhart area for more than 32 years at such places as Elkhart Healthcare and Miller’s Merry Manor in Wakarusa, Ind. She was an avid animal lover and a devout supporter of non-cruelty to animals. Heidi will be best remembered for her trademark white nurse’s cap while she was on the job, and her bandanna and free spirit when she was at home. She was also a Harley-Davidson motorcycle enthusiast.
