Hedy Chan Chui Siew (born 7 May 1949 in Kuching, Sarawak), was a Malaysian teacher that served for 38 years in SRK Combined primary school (1966-2004). She specialized in English language subjects (known as her favorite subject), Malay language and Mathematics.

She began her career at the age of 17 until 55 years old, the age of her retirement. She passed away peacefully on 19 November 2013. She is remembered as a caring aunt that always provides and a friendly and socially able person with close friends from different races. She was also an animal lover having owned 5 dogs in her lifetime.

EARLY LIFE
Hedy Chan Chui Siew was born on the 7th of May 1949 in Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia to a family of 6 including her. Her siblings include (from youngest to eldest), Daisy Chan Guet Siew, Robin Chan Chiok San and Sonny Chan Cheok Siew (deceased). She is the eldest of four siblings. Her mother, Ong Pat Moi, was a housewife while her father, Chan Kheng Hai, worked as a government officer for the Customs Department Of Sarawak.

EDUCATION AND CAREER
Hedy attended St. Columbus Primary School (1955-1961) during her primary school years and moved to St. Mary‘s Secondary School (1962-1965) to continue her studies until Form 4.

After finishing her Form 4 education, Hedy moved on to pursue a teaching career when she was 17 at SRK Combined (1966-2004) and thus began a 38 year long term of service towards the school.

AWARDS
Hedy was awarded the Pingat Perkhidmatan Setia for her 38 years of long service to the Sarawak government as a school teacher in SRK Combined

RETIREMENT
After working for a total of 38 years, Hedy retired on the 7th of May 2004, her birthday. During her retirement, she would do hobbies such as, listening to the radio. Her favourite station is LiteFM. She also enjoys watching Korean and Hokkien drama series and morning walks along the Kuching Reservoir Park. She would also participate in activities such as going to early morning church services and going to the Satok market bazaar on Saturdays.

DEATH
After a long life of 64 years, Hedy left us on the 19th of November 2013. She was pronounced dead at 3:45am due to side effects from radiation therapy (radiation proctitis). She was in fact recovering from her cancer.

She left behind 2 brothers, one sister, 2 nephews, 6 nieces, 2 grandnephews and one grandniece.
