Hazel Mae Strand of Scottsdale, passed away at her home under the care of Hospice of the Valley on July 23, 2011. Hazzel was born April 6, 1926 to Roy and Callie Hamm on a farm in Artesian, SD., attended Ludwig County School and graduated from Artesian High School in 1943. She moved to Richmond, CA where she worked at Kizer Shipyard until May, 1946. She then returned to South Dakota, where she married Carol Strand on January 17, 1947, in Mitchell, SD. Hazel worked as a cashier at Artesian State Bank until March, 1959, then moved to Rapid City, SD where she was the Office Manager for Rushmore Electric Corp. until September, 1980. The couple moved to Scottsdale in 1985. Hazel is survived by Carol, her husband of 64 years, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by their only son David as well as her parents, brothers Dale & Harlyn, and a sister Gladys.
