Hazel Irene (Allison) Belzer, 91, of Newton died on Tuesday September 14, 2021, at the Bright Kavanagh House in Des Moines.
Hazel, the daughter of John H. and Edith (Johnson) Allison, was born on January 9, 1930, in the Bluff Creek Township area of Monroe County, Iowa. She grew up in Monroe County attending Egypt Grade School and then graduating from Albia High School in 1948. Later that same year she was united in marriage with Dale Wallace; they would make their home in Newton, Iowa in 1950. For many years, Hazel was a homemaker. Hazel was married to Ralph E. Belzer on March 11, 1978 in Fort Dodge. They lived in Fort Dodge for a short time before moving back to Central Iowa, living in Monroe and Newton. Hazel worked as a waitress for Holiday Inn and then as a bookkeeper for Belzer Repair. She was a member of the Women of the Moose, participated in bowling leagues in Newton for many years, and attended numerous activities at the VFW. Hazel loved to play and call BINGO. She played at the VFW, Sr. Citizens Center, Tama, and many other places. Hazel and Ralph enjoyed many years of square dancing and camping. She was also an excellent cook.
Hazel is survived by her sons, Donovan (Pat) Wallace of Turlock, California and Kent Wallace of Hollywood, Florida; step-daughter, Donna Wilson of Sun Prairie, Wisconsin; grandchildren, Heidi (Randy) Kirkpatrick of Newton, Michael Reavis (Rachel Panzi) of Newton, Mitchell Wallace (Katylnn Tokubo) of San Jose, California, Lauren (Jonathan) Reid of Northern Ireland, Julie Wilson of Wisconsin, and Shelley (Kelvin) Bloom of Hawaii; and her great-grandchildren, Brice, Branden, Harrison, and Zara. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ralph; daughter, Regina Wallace; grandson, Dale Joseph Morgan; step son-in-law, Dan Wilson; her sister, Etta Mae Evans; and brother, Delbert Allison.
