Chatham, Hazel Amos Crider age 87 of 827 Evergreen Road Chatham, VA died Monday, August 20, 2012 at Danville Regional Medical Center. She was born on April 2, 1925, in Chatham, the daughter of the late Homer J. Amos and the late Mamie Clark Amos. Mrs. Crider was married to the late James Haywood Crider. She was a life long member of the former Chatham Christian Church, where she served as a Sunday School Teacher, member of the Christian Women’s Fellowship and a Deacon. She was a member of the United Daughters of the Confederacy, Rawley Martin Chapter, Chatham, VA serving as secretary for many years. Mrs. Crider worked for the Pittsylvania County Department of Welfare and the Pittsylvania County Draft Board prior to becoming a full time homemaker in 1962. She is survived by one daughter, Elizabeth C. Knighton of Martinsville; two sons, Alvin Rhae Crider (Martha) of Chatham, and John Haywood Jay Crider (Deana) of Danville; four grandchildren, Elizabeth Clark Knighton Seipt (Mitchell) of Centreville, Mary McGregor Knighton of Woolwine, Allison Carol Knighton of Falls Church, and Cutler Stephen Haywood Crider of Danville; two great grandsons, Samuel Vernon Seipt and Eli McGregor Seipt both of Centreville; one sister, Frances Amos Corbin of Roanoke and a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband she was predeceased by two sister and a brother, Lois Amos Farquharson, Eva Mae Amos Rose, and Homer J. Amos, Jr.
