Hattie Webb Smith, 92, of 470 Old Stage Rd., Bassett, VA died Saturday, June 25, 2011 at her home. Born March 7, 1919, Mrs. Smith was a daughter of the late John Luther Webb and Lena Moles Webb and was the wife of the late Norvell P. Smith and was preceded in death by two sisters, Wavie W. Tew and Ruth W. Richardson and by two brothers, John L. Webb, Jr. and Luther B. Stanley. Mrs. Smith was a member of Meadows of Dan Baptist Church and had retired as owner and operator of Smith’s Body Shop that she and her husband Norvell owned. She also was retired from Bassett Walker. She was a member of Oak Level Ruritan Club and the Association of Virginia Ruritans. Surviving is a daughter and son-in-law, Norvelline Atkins and husband Jerry Atkins of Bassett; a son and daughter-in-law, Don Tew and wife Brenda Tew of Sunset Beach, NC; a brother, Sherman L. Webb of Rockford, IL; a granddaughter, Christy D. Ingram and a step-granddaughter, Penny Atkins Coates and husband Steven Coates.
