Gerald Bennett, age 80, passed away Friday, April 17, 2015 in Warm Springs GA. He was born in East Newnan, Georgia on November 22, 1934 to the late William Harvey Bennett and Louise McLendon Bennett. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother William “Billy” Bennett. Mr. Bennett was a veteran of the United States Navy; he served during the Korean Conflict. He loved the outdoors and sports. In his youth, he was an avid baseball player. Later he coached Little League Ball and Adult Softball. A lover of golf, he had the pleasure of playing the Augusta National Golf Course, home of the The Masters and The Tournament Players Club, at Sawgrass, home of The Players Championship in Jacksonville, FL. He was very active in helping found the Coweta County Volunteer Fire Department and served as a volunteer firefighter. Mr. Bennett spent most of his career in textiles manufacturing. He was Supervisor of Napping, Cutting, Sewing and Packing for Bibb Manufacturing at the Arnco Plant. He was later the Plant Manager of Manetta Mills in Monroe, NC. Gerald was a doting grandfather to Lauren Bennett Crews. But recently, the true delight of his heart was his great granddaughter, Josalyn Grace Crews. He is survived by his wife, Phyllis Brewer Bennett, son, Dennis Gerald Bennett, daughter, Denise (Audie) Burks, granddaughter Lauren (Jon) Crews and great granddaughter Josalyn Grace Crews, sister Barbara Ann Alread plus several nieces and nephews.
