Harvey D. Hinks, 86, of Elkhart, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 21, of natural causes.
He was born Dec. 16, 1930, in Detroit, to Alfred S. and Mary “Polly” (Sutherland) Hinks.
They preceded him in death as well as his first wife, Irene C. (Davis) Hinks, son, Bruce Hinks and brothers James and Alfred Hinks.
Harvey married Carmen E. Gibbons on Dec. 12, 2003.
She survives, as well as her two daughters, Tami Shaw (Jason Ciastko) of Granger and Tina Smith of Concord, Calif.
Also, surviving are Harvey’s four children, Karen Hinks of Huntington Beach, Calif., Kevin (Kristin) Hinks and Andrew Hinks, both of Houston, Texas, Catherine Hinks of Chicago and his two granddaughters, Megan and Olivia Hinks.
He was a photogrammetrist and a co-owner of Air Maps Inc.
He retired from the city of Elkhart, where he worked in code enforcement.
Harvey was a member of the Elkhart Lions Club and a former member of the Caledonia Kilty Band, for which he enjoyed playing the bagpipes.
He was an avid gardener and railroad train enthusiast.
He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War as an aerial photographer.
Harvey was a super fan of his beloved Detroit Tigers, Detroit Lions, and Detroit Red Wings.
